NCPD works with persons with disabilities, government agencies, organisations of persons with disabilities and service providers to promote rights, improve access and strengthen disability inclusion throughout Fiji.
The National Council for Persons with Disabilities is Fiji’s national coordinating body for disability matters. NCPD promotes, protects and supports the rights of persons with disabilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2018.
NCPD provides advice, coordination, information, awareness, registration, referrals and technical support. We also work with government agencies, organisations of persons with disabilities and development partners to improve disability-inclusive policies, programmes and services.
NCPD provides and coordinates the following services. Some specialised assistance may be delivered through a referral to an appropriate government agency, disability organisation or service provider.
We provide information to help individuals, families, organisations and communities understand disability rights, available services and inclusion responsibilities.
We help connect persons with disabilities to appropriate organisations, government agencies and service providers.
We promote the rights, dignity and participation of persons with disabilities and support efforts to address barriers and exclusion.
NCPD facilitates disability-awareness and inclusion sessions for government agencies, workplaces, communities and other stakeholders.
We provide guidance to improve access to buildings, information, communication, transport, workplaces and public services.
NCPD advises government ministries and organisations on disability inclusion in policies, programmes, budgets and public services.
NCPD maintains a register of organisations that provide services to persons with disabilities in Fiji.
We support the collection and use of disability-related information to improve planning, coordination and decision-making.
NCPD brings stakeholders together to strengthen cooperation and improve disability-inclusive services throughout Fiji.
Subject to programme criteria and available resources, NCPD may support accessibility improvements for eligible persons with disabilities.
NCPD works with relevant partners to improve access to appropriate assistive products and technical support.
NCPD works through district structures and community partnerships to strengthen disability inclusion beyond the national office.
